The one day event was a big success as it witnessed a footfall of more than 9500 persons. UMANG-2013 flagged off the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali due in 2015.
The red ribbon was cut at 10:15a.m. to mark the opening of gates, by the Chief Guest Mr. A.K. Tyagi, CMD, MECON Ltd. accompanied by the Guest of Honour – Mr. Suhas Gokhale , Plant Head, Jindal Steel Ltd., Patratu. The Patron of JVM Alumni Association – Mr. A.K. After the inauguration, flower bouquets were presented to the dignitaries and Mr. Chandrakant Raipat, President, JVM Alumni Association delivered his welcome address. The official inauguration was done in a unique way. The guests released gas balloons from the stage and at the same time balloons were released from all around the event area. Blue and white balloons soaring in the sky marked the opening of UMANG-2013.
This was followed by cultural events presented by the school students of all age groups. A welcome song, group dance, fusion of western and classical music, a satirical play, a dance as a tribute to Michael Jackson and many other acts were presented by the students. The grand stage was lit up by the emcee and the anchor – Rio, from Kolkata. He moved in the event area and entertained the crowd with his fun-filled games. Various contests were also held – Healthy Baby Show for infants, Fancy Dress competition for kids up to 10years, Poster Making competition for children of 11-15years and Creative Writing Competition for students of 16-18years. The students showed great enthusiasm in all the competitions. There was a special nostalgic photo collage of 101 feet length and four feet height with old photographs of the alumni.
In the afternoon DJ Pawan came on-stage and made everybody in the event area dance to his heart-throbbing beats. DJ Pawan, from Mumbai runs his own training academy as well as was the runner-up of MTV’s War of DJs. The students and even their parents weren’t able to resist to his mixes. Later in the afternoon, Battle of Bands started off – an on-stage live competition among the best music bands in the city. Nine bands performed in the show and the winner band Highway 69 got a complementary album recording at Twisted Music Studios, Ranchi. Two guest bands also performed – Sparsh and Vikrit. All the visitors felt great joy and were excited to witness such an event put up by the JVM Alumni Association.
Then, the main event of UMANG-2013: a live performance by The One Woman Band – Jasleen Royal, India’s Got Talent Semi-finalist, winners of many music awards. The crowed swayed to her voice. The stage was lit up with her performance as she sang “Panchhi ho jaawan” and her other compositions. After Jasleen, the dance floor was on. DJ Pawan was back behind his console and his beats made the crowd dance. He was amazed seeing the response of the Ranchiites to his Electronic Dance Music (EDM) mixes. The hospitality partners were Green Horizon and the event was managed by Revolution Nationwide Entertainment. The event finally ended with a prize distribution ceremony and a vote of thanks by Mr. Shashank Singh of the 1985-87 batch.
